Classes at Yun's Black Belt AcademyThe typical Tae Kwon Do class is one hour of instruction. As is customary in many martial arts classes, sessions begin with required courtesy, meditation, and stretching exercises. Drills in hand and foot techniques, forms, combinations, hold releases, breaking and no-contact sparring follow. Every class ends with courtesy. Students are encouraged to train three times a week under formal class supervision and to practice their forms and stretching exercise at home. In addition to building upon the lessons received in class, such a regimen is also a tool for development of the more general quality of self-discipline. Yun's Black Belt Academy offers formal class instruction every day except Sunday. Class times vary by school location and curriculum. Contact the school in your area for available class times. About the InstructorsGrandmaster Yun Duk-An was born and raised in what is now South Korea. As a child, he survived both the Japanese occupation of his homeland and the Korean War. His boyhood education included training in the martial art of Moo-Duk-Kwon. While earning a degree in political science at Kuk-Min University in Soeul, Korea, Master Yun trained under the respected Moo-Duk-Kwon Master, Oh Sae-Joon, who introduced him to Tae Kwon Do, in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) style of General Choi Hong-Hi. In competition, Master Yun won the prestigious Tae Kwon Do championship of Korea two years in a row. As a Master in his own right, Mr. Yun has trained both Republic of Korea Marines and U.S. armed forces in Korea. In 1968, Master Yun came to the United States as part of the ITF effort to bring Tae Kwon Do to America. He founded the oldest continuously running Tae Kwon Do school in Wisconsin. In all, Grandmaster Yun provides the experience of more than 55 years of martial art instruction. Master Barry Barrett is celebrating his 30th year as a Tae Kwon Do teacher. He began his martial arts training with Master Yun in 1978 while working for the City of Milwaukee as a surveyor and road designer. He committed his time outside of his job to Tae Kwon Do, assisting Master Yun teaching and competing in over 200 tournaments during a 15-year period. In 1991, he began teaching Tae Kwon Do at the Racine YMCA and, in 1997, was promoted to Head Instructor of Master Yun's Racine schools. His enthusiasm and dedication aid in continuing Master Yun's traditions and teaching in Tae Kwon Do to the Racine and Kenosha areas. |
